A note about the Olympics opening ceremony

2024-07-27

So after months of rumors, discussions, security issues, and so on, the Olympics opening ceremony finally took place.

And it was disappointing. I'll be short and I won't go over all the drama in details. But there was such a huge build-up in France that I feel like I need to at least mention it.

Man, imagine that you have a good chunk of Paris, virtually an unlimited budget, to create the most amazing show that has ever been made... And that's what you choose to do.

Don't get me wrong, there were some cool stuff and some pretty successful scenes. Okay, Aya Nakamura with the National Guard isn't really my taste, but she's quite popular and the meeting of these two worlds has an artistic flavor. The thing is that it wasn't just one part of the show, a lot of pieces just had a very weird vibe and were far from the spectacular excitement I was expecting.

And then, we move to another dimension, with the drag queen last supper, fat woman Jesus, and a weird blue guy with his ball sack zoomed in on all the screens.

I'm not Christian, I'm not offended, I don't think satanists control the world, but what bad taste! For the Olympics, the ceremony watched by a billion people? Damn!

Also I'm sure the creators think they're so transgressive. But you'll notice how they won't mock religions which actually have dictatorial theocracy? You know, the ones where women are barely allowed to live without the approval of a man. Or where blaspheme can actually get you in a lot of troubles.

Anyway, it's done now. What a waste. But the Olympics are about sports and getting people together, so let's move on and enjoy the games. France got their first gold medal thanks to Antoine Dupont and his team!

(I just really hope that the people organizing this show won't touch a dime of public money ever again, but that's very unlikely.)
